Muscle problem forces Ballack to skip training
Jun 5, 2006, 16:50 GMT
Berlin - A muscle problem forced German captain Michael Ballack to skip the team's first training session since moving to their new quarters in Berlin on Monday.
The 29-year-old playmaker has been suffering from a hardened muscle in his right calf.
A spokesman for the German Football Federation said Ballack was excused training as 'a precautionary measure.'
The hosts play Costa Rica in the opening game of the World Cup on Friday.
