Zambrotta to recover for World Cup debut game

Milan - Defender Gianluca Zambrotta expects a quick recovery from an injury that threatened to sideline him for Italy's debut game at the 2006 World Cup in Germany, Italian media reported Tuesday. The 29-year-old defender from Juventus pulled a muscle in his left thigh during a training game at the weekend. He is to miss both friendlies that Italy play against Switzerland on May 31 and Ukraine two days later. Team doctors, however, said he should be fit for the Azzurri's opener set for June 12 against Ghana in Hanover. 'Now I am serene. There should be no problems for the World Cup,' Zambrotta said as he returned to Italy's camp after being examined at a Florence clinic. © 2006 dpa - Deutsche Presse-Agentur
