Innsbruck, Austria - The Czech Republic on Friday won a World Cup preparation match in the Austrian city of Innsbruck against fellow finalists Saudi Arabia 2-0.
The goals for the Czechs, who are considered as one of the dark horses for the World Cup were scored by Milan Baros in the 15th minute and Marek Jankulovski, who converted a penalty in the last minute of the game after David Jarolim had been fouled in the area.
The Czechs, who are preparing for the World Cup in Austria, dominated the match in which the Saudis did little to create chances. Their only chance of the match fell to Saud Kareeri in the first half. The striker suddenly found himself alone in front of goalkeeper Petr Cech, but the Chelsea keeper pulled off a spectacular save.
Czech coach Karel Bruckner had to play without striker Jan Koller, captain Tomas Galasek and midfielder Vladimir Smicer who are all carrying injuries.
Koller though is optimistic that he will be able to play in the next test match against Costa Rica on Tuesday. 'I am feeling better all the time.'
The Czechs are also playing a friendly against Trinidad and Tobago, while Saudi Arabia will face Turkey in Offenbach on May 31.
Saudi Arabia has been drawn into Group H with Tunisia, Ukraine and Spain, while the Czechs will face Ghana, Italy and the US in the June 9 - July 9 tournament.
