No umbrellas or backpacks allowed in stadiums
May 21, 2006, 13:41 GMT
Frankfurt, Germany - The local organising committee of the World Cup (OK) said on the weekend that fans would not be allowed to take umbrellas or backpacks into the stadiums for security reasons.
'Any items which can't be put under the seat will not be allowed into the stadiums, nor will fans be allowed to take bottles or cans with them,' the OK said.
The security aspect of the June 9 - July 9 tournament runs under the motto of: 'As much security as necessary, as little restrictions as possible.'
The OK also said that fans would be allowed to bring flags into the stadium as long as the flagpole was no longer than one metre and not thicker than three centimetres. Banners are allowed to be no longer than three metres and are not to exceed a width of one metre.
Items which are brought to the stadiums and are not allowed in have to be handed to security personell and can be reclaimed after the games.
To ensure that this process does not take too long, there will be three times as many entry points to the stadium as normally.
