From Monsters and Critics.com WNBA Phoenix, AZ - Penny Taylor scored a game-high 28 points and also grabbed seven rebounds, leading the red-hot Phoenix Mercury past the Los Angeles Sparks, 100-83, at US Airways Center. Cappie Pondexter added 21 points for Phoenix, which has won three straight and nine of its last 10 games overall. The Mercury have already clinched a playoff spot and still hold a half-game lead over the San Antonio Silver Stars for the best record in the Western Conference. Tangela Smith chipped in with 16 points and Diana Taurasi donated 12 for the Mercury, who were 28-of-31 (90 percent) from the free-throw line. Sidney Spencer scored 18 points and pulled down 11 rebounds for the Sparks, who have dropped five straight. Marta Fernandez came off the bench to contribute 14 points and Murriel Page finished with 13 for Los Angeles, which had six players in double figures. © 2007 The Sports Network
