San Antonio, TX - Vickie Johnson's layup with under a second to play lifted the San Antonio Silver Stars over the Sacramento Monarchs, 80-78, and into the Western Conference finals.
Johnson ended with 14 points and seven assists and Sophia Young tallied a game-high 26 points with six board for San Antonio, which won the best-of- three series, 2-1. Becky Hammon recorded 22 points and seven assists for the Silver Stars, who will take on the Phoenix Mercury in the conference finals beginning on Thursday.
Hammon drained a three-pointer with 35 seconds left to put the Silver Stars in front, 78-76.
Sacramento tied the game again when Kara Lawson put back a Nicole Powell missed trey with 24 seconds on the clock, but with the clock running out, Johnson received a pass from Hammon and hit the wide-open layup.
Powell ended with 20 points for Sacramento, which overcame a 20-point deficit. Lawson added 12 for the Monarchs, who had appeared in the last two WNBA Finals.
