New York, NY - Seattle Storm center Lauren Jackson was named the 2007 WNBA Defensive Player of the Year on Friday.
Jackson received 20 votes from a national panel of sportswriters and broadcasters to finish ahead of the Indiana Fever's Tamika Catchings, the winner in each of the past two seasons. Catchings garnered 16 votes.
Jackson is the Storm's all-time leader in blocked shots and ranked second in the league in blocks this season with two per game. She was the only player in the WNBA to rank in the top 10 in points, rebounds and blocks in 2007 and her league-best 7.1 defensive rebounds per game were nearly two more than the 5.4 posted by the runner-up.
Jackson, who was the first overall pick in the 2001 WNBA Draft and named to the WNBA's All-Decade Team in 2006, was selected to her sixth All-Star Game in July.
