Taurasi leads Mercury past Monarchs

Phoenix, AZ - Diana Taurasi poured in 24 points as the Phoenix Mercury beat the Sacramento Monarchs, 87-73, in the season finale for both teams at US Airways Center.Penny Taylor added 14 points and Cappie Pondexter 13 for the Mercury, who were Western Conference regular season champs and have won five in a row.Phoenix moves on to play the fourth-seeded Seattle Storm in a best-of-three series starting Friday.Rebekkah Brunson scored 24 points and grabbed 13 rebounds and Yolanda Griffith donated 11 points for the Monarchs, who finished in third place in the West and have lost two in a row.Sacramento will play the second-seeded San Antonio Silver Stars on Thursday.© 2007 The Sports Network
