New York, NY - Shameka Christon netted a game-high 15 points, as the New York Liberty rallied in the fourth quarter to edge the Chicago Sky, 58-52, and capture the Eastern Conference's fourth and final playoff spot.
New York entered Sunday in a virtual tie with Washington but held the tiebreaker. The Mystics put the pressure on by edging Connecticut earlier in the day.
The outlook seemed grim for New York after three quarters, with the Sky holding a seven-point advantage. The Liberty outscored Chicago 20-7 in the final frame, though, to pull out the win and capture the playoff berth.
The Liberty move on to play the top-seeded Detroit Shock in a best-of-three series starting Friday.
Janel McCarville had 14 points and nine rebounds for New York, and Cathrine Kraayeveld added 12 points and nine boards.
Dominique Canty paced the Sky with 14 points. Chicago finished in last place in the Eastern Conference.
