Taurasi helps Mercury clinch top seed

Sacramento, CA - Diana Taurasi scored 32 points, as the Phoenix Mercury downed the Sacramento Monarchs, 101-91, to clinch the top seed in the Western Conference playoffs.Cappie Pondexter netted 23 points for the Mercury, who will face Seattle in the first round next week for their first playoff appearance since 2000.Rebekkah Brunson scored 17 points for the Monarchs, who will meet San Antonio in their first-round series. Nicole Powell, Yolanda Griffith and Kara Lawson all scored 12 points apiece.The Mercury took off on a 20-6 burst midway through the second quarter for a 46-37 halftime lead, and kept the Monarchs at bay throughout the second half.© 2007 The Sports Network
