Uncasville, CT - Kara Lawson scored 21 points and pulled down six rebounds, as the Sacramento Monarchs clinched a playoff spot with an 81-79 win over the Sun, stopping Connecticut's four-game winning streak.
Adrian Williams had 14 points and Yolanda Griffith tallied 11 and seven rebounds for the Monarchs, who have won three of their last four games. Rebekkah Brunson, playing despite a stress fracture to her left fibula, had eight points and 11 rebounds for Sacramento.
Asjha Jones and Lindsay Whalen each had 17 points for the Sun, losers in only two of their last 12 games.
Nykesha Sales' layup with nearly 30 seconds left got the Sun within 81-79. Brunson missed a layup for the Monarchs with nearly six seconds left, and the Sun got the ball back, but Whalen missed a layup in the final second.
