Mystics hold off Silver Stars

San Antonio, TX - Alana Beard poured in 19 points -- including 11 free throws -- to power the Washington Mystics past the San Antonio Silver Stars, 77-73, in a matinee matchup at AT&T Center.
Nakia Sanford chipped in 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds, and Monique Currie donated 10 points for Washington, which has won three straight and eight of its last 11 games.
Sophia Young scored a game-high 26 points, and Helen Darling finished with 18 for San Antonio, which has dropped three of its last four games.
The Silver Stars made it a two-point game with just six seconds remaining in regulation on a three-pointer by Darling. She fouled Beard on the ensuing play, however, and the Mystics' forward made both shots from the charity stripe to close out the contest.
Washington currently holds the fourth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
