Sun run away from Fever early for fourth straight win
Aug 5, 2007, 1:30 GMT
Uncasville, CT - Katie Douglas scored 19 points, pulled down five rebounds, and dished out five assists to lead the Connecticut Sun to their fourth straight win in a 84-59 rout of the Indiana Fever.
Connecticut used a big second quarter, during which it outscored the Fever 24-9, to put the game away early. Indiana led just once, at 4-2 in the first quarter, before being worn down by the Sun's oversized frontcourt. That happened as 7-foot-2 Margo Dydek scored 12 points and pulled down nine rebounds, and forward Ashja Jones added 11 and four rebounds.
For the game, Connecticut shot an even 50 percent from the field, including 9-of-15 on three-pointers. Douglas and reserve guard Jamie Carey drained three apiece from beyond the arc, as the Sun took a 49-24 lead at halftime and won for the 10th time in 11 games.
K.B. Sharp had 14 points off the bench for Indiana, who had just one player in double figures and lost for the seventh time in eight games.
The win moves Connecticut (16-12) within a game of Indiana (17-11) in the race for the Eastern Conference' second seed in the playoffs.
