Aug 4, 2007, 3:10 GMT
Chicago, IL - Plenette Pierson scored 15 points and Swin Cash added 14 as the surging Detroit Shock beat the Chicago Sky, 66-60, at UIC Pavilion.
Kara Braxton tallied 12 points and Deanna Nolan 11 for the playoff-bound Shock, who posted their fourth straight victory. They've won 11 of their last 12 games.
Katie Smith iced the victory by sinking five free throws in the final 17 seconds.
Chicago leading scorer Candice Dupree missed the game due to the death of her grandmother.
Jia Perkins had 19 points and seven rebounds to pace the Sky, losers of two straight. Stacey Dales had 14 points for Chicago.
Down 61-58, Perkins missed a three-pointer with a chance to tie in the final minute and Smith hit a pair of foul shots with 17 seconds remaining. Perkins then banked in a shot less than four seconds later, but Smith sealed Detroit's win at the charity stripe.
