Late surge pulls Shock past Silver Stars

San Antonio, TX - Plenette Pierson scored 22 points as the East-leading Detroit Shock surprised the West-leading San Antonio Silver Stars, 81-78, at the AT&T Center.
Katie Smith picked up 20 points and six boards for the Shock, who have won three straight games. Deanna Nolan added 15 points and six rebounds.
Becky Hammon recorded a game-high 26 points for the Silver Stars, who have dropped three of five. Sophia Young added 22 points and Vickie Johnson had a game-high nine rebounds in defeat.
In a back-and-forth contest, Detroit led by five after one, only to trail 44-42 at the break. San Antonio took a six-point lead into the final quarter only to see Detroit roar back and outscore the Stars 22-13 in the fourth.
