Sacramento, CA - Ticha Penicheiro posted a game-high 19 points to lead the Sacramento Monarchs to a 67-59 win over the Los Angeles Sparks in a low-scoring contest at ARCO Arena.
Nicole Powell scored 12 points and Yolanda Griffith added 11 points for the Monarchs, who snapped a three-game losing streak. Rebekkah Brunson pulled down a game-high nine rebounds in the losing effort.
Taj McWilliams-Franklin led the Sparks with 11 points and eight rebounds, while Marta Fernandez scored 10 points in the losing effort. LA, which is in the midst of a seven-game road trip, has dropped eight of its last nine games overall.
The score was tight at the start of the fourth quarter, but the Monarchs outscored the visitors 22-16 in the final stanza to pull out the win. Sacramento finished 3-of-7 from three-point range but shot just 37 percent from the floor overall.
