Jackson scores 47, but Storm fall to Mystics
Jul 25, 2007, 2:25 GMT
Washington, DC - Alana Beard netted 27 points, as the Washington Mystics edged Lauren Jackson and the Seattle Storm, 97-96, at the Verizon Center.
Jackson poured in 47 points to tie a WNBA record, including six in the final 1:07 to move the Storm within a point. Her big night was not enough to push her team over the top, however. Jackson added 14 rebounds.
Diana Taurasi scored 47 in a 111-110 triple-overtime win against Houston last August to set the all-time high.
Monique Currie posted a double-double with 23 points and 11 boards for the Mystics, who went up 97-93 with six ticks on the clock thanks to Beard's fadeaway jumper.
Jackson countered with a three, pulling Seattle a point shy with two seconds left.
DeLisha Milton-Jones added 22 points in a winning effort.
The Mystics posted their fifth victory in six contests, while the Storm lost for the fourth time in five games.
