Mercury top Lynx in shootout

Phoenix, AZ - Penny Taylor scored 28 points and Tangela Smith had 24 as the Phoenix Mercury outlasted the Minnesota Lynx, 106-93, at US Airways Center.
Diana Taurasi added 13 points and Cappie Pondexter and Kelly Miller each dished out nine assists for the Mercury, who had lost three of four.
Seimone Augustus scored a team-high 23 points and Nicole Ohlde had 17 points and eight rebounds for the struggling Lynx, who fell to 0-9 in the month of July.
With the game knotted at 29 after the opening quarter, Phoenix dominated Minnesota in the second quarter, outscoring the Lynx 24-9 en route to a 53-38 halftime lead.
For the game, Phoenix shot 45.6 percent from the floor, including 51.9 percent from beyond the arc (14-of-27). Minnesota shot 46.7 percent from the field.
