Currie powers Mystics over Lynx

Jul 21, 2007, 3:20 GMT

Minneapolis, MN - Monique Currie scored a team-high 18 points to lead the Washington Mystics over the Minnesota Lynx, 91-87, in overtime at the Target Center.

Delisha Milton had 17 points, pulled down nine rebounds and had six steals, and Nakia Sanford also chipped in with 17 points for Washington, which has won four straight road games and four straight games overall.

Alana Beard donated 15 points and Nikki Blue had 12 points in the victory.

Seimone Augustus poured in a career-high 33 points and dished out six assists for Minnesota before leaving with a hip injury.

Svetlana Abrosimova scored 20 points and had eight rebounds for the Lynx, who have dropped eight straight to tie a single-season franchise record set in 2000.

Blue sank three clutch shots down the stretch, including a three-point with 1:32 left in regulation to give Washington the lead.

Both sides then battled back and forth before the Mystics' Tamara James was fouled on a three-point attempt with 2.4 seconds left in regulation. She made all three free throws to force the extra session.

Minnesota then rallied to take the lead with 1:33 remaining in OT, but 13 seconds later Blue hit a shot from the corner that gave Washington the lead for good before Currie tacked on a free throw with 17 seconds to play.

The Lynx, who turned the ball over 32 times in the game, also announced earlier in the day that point guard Lindsey Harding underwent successful reconstructive knee surgery on the torn anterior cruciate ligament in her left knee.

The former Duke star will miss the remainder of the 2007 season and faces a rehabilitation period of six to nine months. She is expected to return in time for training camp next season.
