Surging Silver Stars burn Mercury

Phoenix, AZ - Sophia Young posted 26 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead the San Antonio Silver Stars past the Phoenix Mercury, 87-77, at US Airways Center.
Becky Hammon scored 18 points and dished out four assists for the Silver Stars, who won their fourth straight game. Camille Little donated 12 points, while Ruth Riley chipped in with 10 points.
Diana Taurasi had a game-high 27 points and pulled down nine rebounds for the Mercury, who have lost two straight following a four-game winning streak. Penny Taylor finished with 19 points and 11 rebounds, while Tangela Smith and Cappie Pondexter had 11 points apiece.
Phoenix held a slim three-point lead after the first quarter, but was outscored 21-12 in the second. Vickie Johnson's jump shot keyed a 9-3 run with 3:37 left in the stanza and San Antonio led 40-34 at the half.
The Mercury struggled from three-point range, making just four of its 21 attempts in the contest.
