Catchings, Buescher named WNBA Players of the Week

New York, NY - Tamika Catchings of the Indiana Fever and Erin Buescher of the San Antonio Silver Stars were named the Players of the Week for their respective conferences.
An 11-time Player of the Week winner, Catchings received her second honor this season after averaging 16.5 points, nine rebounds, eight assists and 5.5 steals. She led her team in scoring, rebounds, assists and steals in both contests as the Fever posted a 2-0 record between July 2-8.
Catchings is the only player in the league to be ranked in the top 10 in points (16.6 per game), rebounds (8.9 per game), assists (4.4 per game), steals (3.4 per game) and blocked shots (1.2 per game).
Buescher claimed her first weekly award after averaging 23 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.5 steals and three assists while shooting 63 percent from the floor. Her team also went 2-0 on the week.
On July 7, Buescher scored a career-high 27 points and grabbed a career-high tying five steals, along with six rebounds to lead her team to an 80-73 win over the Seattle Storm.
Other candidates for WNBA Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week were Connecticut's Katie Douglas, Detroit's Deanna Nolan, Penny Taylor of Phoenix, Sacramento's Nicole Powell, Seattle's Lauren Jackson and Washington's Alana Beard.
