New York, NY - Chicago's Jia Perkins and Seattle's Lauren Jackson were named the WNBA's top players for the week ending Sunday, July 1st.
Perkins earned the Eastern Conference honor after averaging 24.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, five assists and two steals in three games for the Sky last week. Perkins set WNBA history on Friday, becoming the first player to post 30-plus points and 10-plus assists in a single game when she recorded 39 points and 10 assists in Seattle's double-overtime win against Sacramento.
The 39 points were also a career and franchise-high for Perkins, who tied the league's all-time record for field goals with 17. This is her first Player of the Week honor.
Jackson captured the Western Conference award for the second time this season and the ninth time in her career. She averaged 23.3 points and 10.3 rebounds in three games for the Storm on the week. On Tuesday, Jackson posted 33 points and 12 rebounds in a win over Perkins and the Sky.
Other candidates for this week's awards included Indianas Tamika Whitmore, Phoenixs Penny Taylor, Sacramentos Rebekkah Brunson, San Antonios Erin Buescher and Washingtons Alana Beard.
