Sparks hold off Monarchs

Los Angeles, CA - Christi Thomas posted 15 points and 11 rebounds, as the Los Angeles Sparks downed the Sacramento Monarchs, 74-66, at Staples Center.
Marta Fernandez scored 26 points for the Sparks, who have won two of three. Jessica Moore added 10 points in the win.
Nicole Powell netted 14 points and grabbed 10 boards for the Monarchs, who had a modest two-game win streak snapped. Rebekkah Brunson added 12 points and eight rebounds.
Trailing 21-19 with 8:37 left in the second quarter, LA exploded on a 24-8 run down the stretch as Fernandez's layup at the buzzer put the Sparks ahead 43-29 at halftime.
Sacramento closed its deficit to just 69-64 with 1:45 to go in the fourth, but LA rattled off the next five points in the final minute to seal the win.
