Sparks top Monarchs in double-OT

Los Angeles, CA - Taj McWilliams Franklin netted 21 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead the Los Angeles Sparks over the Sacramento Monarchs, 96-88, in a double-overtime battle at Staples Center.
Sidney Spencer scored 15 points for the Sparks, who had six players in double figures. Mwadi Mabika, Marta Fernandez and Sherill Baker had 14 points apiece, while Christi Thomas added 10 for Los Angeles, which snapped a three-game skid.
Kara Lawson scored 20 points, grabbed eight boards and dished out four assists for the Monarchs, who had their three-game winning streak halted. Nicole Powell chipped in with 18 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, and Chelsea Newton donated 13 points.
