San Antonio, TX - The San Antonio Silver Stars have acquired
center Ruth Riley from the Detroit Shock in exchange for center Katie
Feenstra.
The trade agreement also contains a clause that would allow the Shock to switch first-round draft positions with San Antonio in 2008 if the Silver Stars draw a higher selection.
'We are so excited to have Ruth become a Silver Star,' said San Antonio head coach and general manager Dan Hughes. 'She brings championship experience, leadership qualities and talent to this growing team.'
Riley helped the Shock to the WNBA title in 2003 and 2006. She was the MVP of the WNBA Finals in '03 and was an All-Star selection in 2005.
Last season, she averaged 7.3 points and 4.9 rebounds in 34 games, and owns WNBA career averages of 8.1 points and 4.9 rebounds.
'I've had a great four years in Detroit,' Riley said. 'I'll take a lot of memories with me, but I'm looking forward to a new start, a new city and an equally great franchise.'
Riley was selected by the Miami Sol with the fifth overall pick of the 2001 WNBA Draft after a stellar collegiate career at Notre Dame that included a national championship and Naismith Player of the Year award. She went to Detroit in a dispersal draft in 2003 after the Sol folded.
Feenstra has averaged 8.3 points and 5.6 rebounds in her two WNBA seasons.
