From Monsters and Critics.com Tennis London - Martina Navratilova on Sunday called for lifetime bans for any players found to have been part of corrupting a match. The retired nine-time Wimbledon singles winner dove into the current controversy on the eve of Wimbledon after reports in the Sunday Times of eight suspicious matches played in recent editions at the All England club. The former great proposed a no-nonsense solution as she spoke to the BBC. 'The only way to really check on it is by betting patterns. Obviously there have been some betting patterns which are very disconcerting,' said the 51-year-old. 'The only way to really deal with it would be to make extremely severe penalties. 'Any player that would lose a match on purpose - they are done for life, lifetime ban.' Tennis authorities are reportedly set to announce further sanctions on any wrongdoers, including 50,000-pound fines (99,000 dollars) for corruption in addition to three-year bans which could be stretched to life in extreme cases.
