London - Serb Jelena Jankovic knocked defending champion Venus Williams out in the third round at the Wimbledon Championships with a 7-6 (10-8), 4-6, 6-4 victory over the error-prone sixth seed Saturday.

Williams, who also won the title in 2000 and 2001, struck a massive 54 unforced errors and slumped to a dozen double-faults.

One of those came in the final game, giving Jankovic a fourth match point. A subsequent return error by Williams ended the sixth seed's bid at this edition.

Williams had beaten the Serb in both of their previous meetings, including the Rome quarter-finals in May.
