Tomic in police confrontation over driving offences

Sydney - Australian Open star Bernard Tomic got in trouble again with the law on Thursday, with the 19-year-old charging that local traffic cops have it out for him on the roads of his hometown on the Gold Coast.

Tomic has a provisional licence which limits him to driving from tennis courts to his home until he gains a full permit.

Local media reported that Tomic was flagged down on Thursday's Australia Day holiday while driving with his girlfriend.

He reportedly refused to pull over and drove home, with police waiting for him there. That let to a confrontation, with police finally allowed to issue their citations after intervention by local officials familiar with the teenager's situation.

Tomic's lawyer said he wants to file a complaint with the police for harassment after also being stopped in December. Tomic, who reached the fourth round of the Australian Open, had previously complained about perceived persecution by local police.

'I don't know what's wrong ... it's like I killed somebody. They've given me three tickets and one officer feels like he wants to get me and it's not a good feeling,' Tomic told Australia's Seven News.

'It's all happened on Australia Day when I am trying to have fun with my mates.'
