Australian Tomic earns marathon win

Melbourne - Australian Bernard Tomic won a marathon match of more than four hours against Spain's Fernando Verdasco 4-6, 6-7 (3-7), 6-4, 6-2, 7-5 to reach the second round of the Australian Open on Monday.
The number 37 teenager lost the first two sets but rallied with a sellout crown on his side to take the victory in brutal heat. Tomic next faces American Sam Querrey.
