Djokovic ready to try and repeat 2011 miracle season
Jan 14, 2012, 7:32 GMT
Melbourne - Novak Djokovic will move into action for 2012 after setting records all through 2011, with the world number one determined to try and duplicate the best season of his career.
The 24-year-old Serb had only three weeks off after the World Tour Finals and before heading to a New Year's exhibition in Abu Dhabi. But Djokovic said that was enough time off court.
With more title to try and win, sitting back to reflect was not really a part of his off-season programme. And though Greek Orthodox Serbs celebrated Christmas only a few days ago, Djokovic found himself on court during most of the holidays.
'I don't think that in general my game should be changed or that I should take any major changes in it,' said the winner of ten titles and 70 matches in 2011.
'I have to keep that consistency of performing well, work on some things, maybe to get more often to the net, work on my serve a little bit more, that variety of the serve.
'That's it, more or less. Obviously 2011 has been the best year so far in my career. It's going to be very difficult to repeat what I have done.'
Djokovic will find himself defending three of the four Grand Slam trophies in 2011, Roland Garros in may being the only exception.
The Melbourne top seed is optimistic that he might be able to repeat his 2011 success.
'I've done it once - why not twice? Why not staying optimistic and positive about the whole season? It's a start.
'Obviously I'm not thinking too far away from Australia. My focus is directed to this tournament. I want to start off the year well, as everybody else obviously.
'I had I take a lot of time to recover, a lot of time to prepare. I skipped the first week of the season in order to get ready for Melbourne.
'The last couple years playing on the top level gave me a lot of necessary confidence and experience, learning what to do on the court, off the court. I just think I matured in general.
'When I step on the court right now, when I prepare for the major events, it's a different feeling from what I had in the past years. I just have more self belief when I'm out there.'
