Bulgarian poll names Djokovic Balkan athlete of the year

Sofia - Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic was elected the Balkan athlete of the year in a poll conducted by the Bulgarian news agency BTA and published Tuesday.
Djokovic, who ended the year on top of the ATP list after claiming three out of the four Grand Slam titles, had 91 points in the survey, ahead of the Croatian skier Janica Kostelic with 61.
The poll, which BTA runs annually since 1973 among sport reporters from 11 countries in the region, placed Bulgarian swimmer Petar Stojchev in third place, with 40 points.
The 2010 winner was Bulgarian wrestler Stanka Zlateva.
