NOTEBOOK: Injury to keep Nalbandian from Argentine Davis Cup tie
Jul 3, 2011, 10:46 GMT
London - Argentina will miss David Nalbandian for next weekend's Davis Cup quarter-final in Buenos Aires against Kazakhstan, after the former Wimbledon finalist was ruled out with a continuing groin injury.
The weight of victory now falls more heavily on Juan Del Potro, himself coming back from wrist surgery in 2010. The remainder of the host team will comprise Eduardo Schwank, Juan Chela and Juan Monaco.
Argentine captain Modesto Vazquez called Nalbandian's absence 'a serious loss. We were counting on David as a luxury.'
'David has a very visible haematoma (blood bruise). The injury is associated with the last operation,' said the team doctor. Nalbandian, 29, has been in South America since going out in the Wimbledon third round to Roger Federer.
Argentina lost the 2006 and 2008 finals. The tie begins on Thursday instead of the usual Friday because of national elections at the weekend.

NOTEBOOK: Bryans may have missed chest bump after Wimbledon victory =
London (dpa) - Bob and Mike Bryan admit they may have forgotten to perform their traditional, celebratory chest bump after winning their second Wimbledon doubles title. The US twins have now won 11 majors, level with the record of Australians Mark Woodforde and Todd Woodbridge.
'We're not phasing it out, I don't know even know what we did when we won,' said Mike. 'I just think I put my arms up and we hugged, but it's a blur.'
While the two have spent almost all of their 33 years together, that has now changed after Bob's marriage. He now lives in Miami, while Mike stays in their native California, north of Los Angeles.
'We're on different coasts, which is different, but we're always together on the road. We haven't been home since January,' said Mike. 'I eventually want to be near Bob. I think I'm going to try to get him to come to California again.'
Retorted his twin: 'I don't know, man. I'm trying to convince this guy to come to Florida and he's trying to convince me.'
The pair, who shared a house along with their teams during Wimbledon, don't expect to retire anytime soon, mainly for fear of boredom after a record-setting career.
'This week it was smooth. It's not going to change for a while,' said Bob. 'We're going to be in this meat grinder for another four or five years.'
