Murray warns Lopez-mad mum to end Feli fixation
Jun 25, 2011, 9:32 GMT
London - Andy Murray has issued a public rebuke to his Twitter-crazed mum, saying he's had it with her public - if joking - infatuation with 'fellow player Deliciano' Lopez.
Judy Murray and German Andrea Petkovic have spent the last few weeks Tweeting their appreciation of the various physical attributes of the long-haired Spaniard Feliciano who knocked Andy Roddick out of Wimbledon.
Murray took the opportunity after his third-round win over Ivan Ljubicic to knock the joking in its head, saying: 'I think it's about time she stopped with that nonsense. It makes me want to throw up. It's disgusting, it's disgusting.'
The 40-something Judy, a part-time tennis coach and public persona around the grounds and on the internet, has kept up her constant chatter about the Iberian, generally accepted by the female population as a genuine tennis hunk.
Murray mum, who Tweets on all subjects dozens of times a day, had this most recent word on Lopez several hours after his upset of Roddick.
'Oooooooooh Deliciano........looking good out there. As always.'
Andy Murray said he tried a trick on his mother on the practice courts at Wimbledon which left her face temporarily as red as her hair.
'I was practising with (Lopez) him before the tournament and my mum was on the side. It's quite funny because she'd been writing about it on Twitter like all the time,' he said.
'I said, when we were warming up, I shouted across the net, I said, 'Feli, if we sit down for a drink, if you could take a picture with my mum, because she thinks you're beautiful.'
'She went bright red. 'I'm not doing it, I'm not doing it.' Refused to take the picture. Quite funny. Not like her. I hope she'll still be supporting me,' said Murray who could meet the Spaniard in the later stages of the event next week.
As far as the laid-back No.44 Lopez, the attention is apparently nothing he's not already quite familiar with.
'It's coming from Andy's mother. She's so funny. It's just something that everybody knows now because somebody post it on Twitter,' he said.
'I have to like it. It's kind of funny. I mean, it's OK,' he said of the 'Deliciano' tag.
