Sharapova fighting heel pain prior to US Open

Cincinnati, Ohio - Maria Sharapova, who lost the final at the Cincinnati Masters to Kim Clijsters, has withdrawn from this week's tournament in Montreal to let a heel injury rest, her website reported Monday.
The Russian wasted a match point as rain came in her final with Clijsters as the Belgian eventually took a 2-6, 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 title win Sunday.
'I felt some pain in my foot late in the second set which kind of scared me so I have been forced to pull out of Montreal,' the one- time world number one said on her website.
Sharapova has only a fortnight until the August 30 start of the Open, which she won in 2006.
