Belgian bad luck continues with Clijsters foot injury
Apr 25, 2010, 16:09 GMT
Brussels - The Wimbledon preparation of Kim Clijsters was heavily compromised Sunday after doctors determined that the US Open champion tore a muscle in her foot during a Fed Cup singles win against Estonia.
The weekend has been an unlucky disaster for the hosts after teammate Justine Henin, a fellow comeback player and Grand Slam champion, jammed and broke a finger when a ball struck it Wednesday.
Doctors say Clijsters will be out for six weeks, a timetable that would see her missing the French Open and possibly not having enough time to regain form for Wimbledon which begins June 21.
The mother of one is scheduled to tune-up on grass at the Eastbourne event from June 14.
Clijsters took a Fed Cup win on Saturday, playing through the injury and will now be on crutches with hopes of speeding up the recovery process.
Clijsters, who retired to have a child and returned to the game unexpectedly last summer, last played at Paris and Wimbledon in 2006,reaching the semi-finals at both events.
