Federer facing washout at rain-soaked Miami
Mar 29, 2010, 18:43 GMT
Miami - Roger Federer's bid for the fourth round of the Miami Masters was looking grim as heavy rain played havoc with Monday's schedule at the ATP-WTA event.
Two hours after start time, no matches had gone onto court at Crandon Park while drying crews had made several appearances in between bouts of rainy weather.
The Swiss top seed was scheduled to face off against Frenchman Florent Serra, following the day's opening showcase match between Spaniard Feliciano Lopez and Floridian Mardy Fish, who eliminated Britain's Andy Murray.
An 11 a.m. start came and went, with blowing rainstorms hovering over the grounds by early afternoon.
Men were playing the last of their third-round matches while women were due to start the fourth, with top seed Svetlana Kuznetsova facing Marion Bartoli of France and three-time winner Venus Williams taking on Slovak Daniela Hantuchova.
Forecasts call for rainstorms all day with clear spells and sun through Thursday.
