Indian Wells, California - Polish fifth seed Agnieskwa Radwanska denied number four Elena Dementieva a spot in the semi- finals of the Indian Wells Masters, posting a 6-4, 6-3 victory Wednesday over the experienced Russian.
The winner has now moved to the final four in the desert without losing a set in four matches. She has won three of four hard-court matches with two-time Grand Slam finalist Dementieva, who was competing in a fifth quarter-final at the event.
'I'm very happy that I am in this condition, always playing two sets,' Radwanska said. 'It's tough, especially against Dementieva. I'm just happy about my performance this week.
'In the end she was really, like, upset and mad. But anyway, it was a good, long match.'
Radwanska, eighth in the world to Dementieva's seventh, will play the winner of a match between second seed Caroline Wozniacki and China's Australian open semi-finalist Zheng Jie.
Radwanska moved through in 90 minutes without an ace, while breaking her Russian opponent four times.
The 28-year-old Dementieva still leads the WTA with 17 match wins this season and has won 2010 titles in Sydney and Paris.
'It was very hot, and I didn't really feel that great today,' Radwanska said. 'I just made myself fight 'til the last point.'
Dementieva lamented her own form: 'During the match, I probably played maybe one or two games the way I have to play to beat her. It was not enough. I was just too slow with my footwork.'
In the men's draw, Argentine Juan Monaco booked the first of the quarter-final spots with a defeat of Spaniard Guillermo Garcia-Lopez 3-6, 6-2, 6-1.
Holder Rafael Nadal, seeded third, was aiming for the last eight against American John Isner, while second seed Novak Djokovic, the 2008 champion, was facing Croatian Ivan Ljubicic.
