London - Roger Federer is planning an almighty tennis push
on the road to a potential sixth Wimbledon title this weekend and
another spot in the record books for the most Grand Slam singles
titles ever achieved.
But once next Monday comes, the Swiss world number two will
reportedly travel back home with pregnant wife Mirka Vavrinec to
await the summer birth of the couple's first child.
Former WTA player Mirka was in her accustomed place in the player
box for Federer's clinical 6-3, 7-5, 7-6 (7-3) destruction of Ivo
Karlovic Wednesday to reach a 21st consecutive Grand Slam semi-final.
Should he beat Tommy Haas on Friday, he would be playing in his
sixth trophy at the All England club in the past seven years.
'We're just going to try to push through this weekend, and then
after that she can completely relax, even though she is already,'
said the holder alongside Pete Sampras of 14 singles titles at the
majors.
'There's still obviously the pressure with all the big matches,
and especially towards the final weekend.
'But I'm very happy the way things are right now. It's gonna be
exciting, I'm sure, the rest now.'
Mirka has been in attendance for almost all of Federer's Wimbledon
matches, her baby bump growing with each passing week.
'Mirka being pregnant, it feels good, you know, because she's
completely relaxed. That helps me in a big way, to not be distracted
a whole lot,' said the second seed.
'She's been very supportive. I expected her to be a bit more
nervous maybe or not feeling maybe so well. But she's been really
terrific, and that's made it easy for me anyway to concentrate on
tennis.'
