New York - Rain from Tropical Storm Hanna expected to hit New York overnight could force a change in scheduling for the hectic final weekend of the US Open.
Bad weather a drama for the US event, which schedules its last three days to suit the demands of television paymasters, with two men's semi-finals of Saturday along with the women's final.
The men's final always comes on Sunday afternoon following the opening of the gridiron football season, with starts times never certain.
But rain has forced officials to come up with a plan, including starting Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic in a semi-final on Saturday at the early hour of 11 am. That will be followed by the showdown between top seed Rafael Nadal and Brit Andy Murray.
Officials said that if all play is rained out on Saturday, the men's semis and women's final will be set for Sunday.
In that case, the men's final would be delayed until Monday evening - for television purposes, of course.
Should the men complete on Saturday but not the women, both finals will be played on Sunday, men in until evening and women later.
