New York - Americans Bob and Mike Bryan reclaimed the number one ATP doubles ranking on Friday with a 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (12-10) victory over Lukas Dlouhy and Leander Paes to win the US Open for the second time.
The victory for the Californian brothers marked their sixth trophy at a Grand Slam and took them beyond Daniel Nestor and Nenad Zimonjuc to the top of the speciality ranking table.
'It feels sweet to get the last Grand Slam of the year,' said Mike Bryan. 'It's been a while since we've been in a Grand Slam final. Last year at Wimbledon we were in the finals.
'So it feels really good to win, especially in the US after a long, long summer going over to Beijing.'
Bryan called the result 'one of our top achievements, especially playing against those guys. The level of tennis and the crowd was spectacular.'
The Bryans will next pair up in a fortnight as the US travels to Spain for a Davis Cup semi-final in Madrid.
The defeat denied Paes a chance for a trophy double in the team game at this edition after claiming the mixed doubles with Zimbabwe's Cara Black.
