New York - Lindsay Davenport won't be rushed to take a decision about her tennis future after a frustrating third-round exit from the US Open.
The 32-year-old mother has said she would ponder her future in the sport after her New York run ended.
The three-time Grand Slam winner could not have wished for a more ignominious departure.
Davenport stormed off the court after losing in straight sets to 2007 Wimbledon finalist Marion Bartoli. 'It's tough to make any kind of decision in a rash moment, and there was no decision made before the tournament.
'I don't think it's time to make a certain statement now,' said the mother of one-year-old Jagger.
Davenport returned to the WTA a year ago after her son's June birth, lifting two titles in late 2007 and another two in early 2008.
But recently, knee and back injuries have made continuing more of an uncertainty.
'I didn't know if I'd be able to play,' she said of the knee problem which forced her from Olympic singles. 'When I came out here on Monday, was able to play, that was a huge step in the right direction,' she added. Davenport looks like sticking to her plan of consulting with her stockbroker husband Jon to decide whether she should carry on in the game, one of only a handful of mothers on the circuit along with Austrian Sybille Bammer and Rossana de los Rios.
