Jun 11, 2007, 13:05 GMT
Halle, Germany - World No. 1 Roger Federer withdrew from this week's ATP tournament on Monday.
Federer announced that he would sideline himself to avoid the risk of injury after his loss to Rafael Nadal in Sunday's French Open final.
'In an attempt to prevent injury after the long final in Paris, I cannot defend my title at the Gerry Weber Open in Halle,' Federer said in a release. 'I look forward to returning in 2008.'
Federer is the defending four-time champion at the event and was scheduled to play Olivier Rochus in the first round of the grass-court Wimbledon tuneup.
