Finally Federer! Roger rallies past Rafa in Hamburg final

May 20, 2007, 16:53 GMT

Hamburg, Germany - Roger Federer rallied from a set down to beat Rafael Nadal in Sunday's final at the Hamburg Masters.

Federer finally beat Nadal on clay with a 2-6, 6-2, 6-0 triumph, ending the Spaniard's amazing 81-match winning streak on the slow surface.

Nadal hadn't lost on clay since April 2005, a run that included 13 straight titles on the surface. He had also beaten Federer five times on clay during that span, including a straight-set triumph at the Monte Carlo Masters earlier this spring.

Federer improved to 4-7 all-time against Nadal, but had previously beaten him only on grass or hard courts.

The top-seeded Swiss superstar, though, won his fourth career Hamburg crown. He also notched wins at this French Open tune-up in 2002, 2004 and 2005.

Nadal, who also won the Italian Masters last week, was trying to become the first player to win all three Masters clay titles in a single season since the series began in 1990.
