Serena will skip German Open
May 3, 2007, 17:49 GMT
Berlin, Germany - Australian Open champion Serena Williams will miss next week's German Open due to a groin injury.
The eight-time Grand Slam champion missed a recent event in Charleston due to a strained groin and pulled out of a Fed Cup match against Belgium two weeks ago, citing a right knee injury.
The former world No. 1 Williams, who upset Russian Maria Sharapova in January's Aussie Open finale, has appeared in only four WTA Tour events so far this season. The American star is currently ranked 12th in the world.
