Federer won't play for Switzerland against Spain next February

Zurich - The dream Davis Cup first-round clash between Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal won't take place in Switzerland Feb 11-13 after Federer ruled himself out of the tie, Swiss Tennis reported on its website Tuesday.
Federer wants to focus on defending his world number 1 ranking and concentrate on the most important Tour tournaments, the organisation said.
'He said that winning Davis Cup is important to him as a long-term goal. Swiss Tennis regrets Roger Federer's refusal, but understands,' it added.
Federer is already training in Shanghai this week for the Masters Cup starting Sunday, where he and Nadal lead the year-end field.
Federer played regularly for his country from 2002-2004, reaching one semi-final (against Australia) and two quarter-finals.
He did not play the first round this year but saved the Swiss form relegation by playing in September.
