Federer follows Nadal's withdrawal in Paris
Oct 30, 2006, 16:30 GMT
Paris, France - World No. 1 Roger Federer has decided to withdraw from this week's Masters Series event in Paris, citing exhaustion.
The reigning Wimbledon, U.S. Open and Australian Open titlist Federer played each of the past two weeks, winning tournaments in Madrid and his hometown of Basel. He has won each of his last four events, starting with the U.S. Open, and has 11 titles this year.
Lucky loser Teimuraz Gabashvili of Russia will replace the Swiss superstar in the Paris draw.
This week's tournament is the final event before the Tennis Masters Cup in Shanghai, which starts in two weeks.
Two-time French Open champ Rafael Nadal also pulled out of this week's tournament because of an abdominal injury, which he hopes will not prevent him from playing in Shanghai.
