Federer clinches first Madrid trophy in straight sets
Oct 22, 2006, 16:19 GMT
Madrid - Impeccable Roger Federer hammered out his tenth title victory of the season Sunday with a 7-5, 6-1, 6-0 defeat of Fernando Gonzalez to win the Madrid Masters.
The title fixed a small deficiently in the Federer record, with the Swiss finally winning a title in Spain. Federer has now won his last 19 matches and stands 82-5 in 2006.
The win was his eighth in a row over Gonzalez, who has won a mere two sets in the series.
Federer had his right ankle re-taped after the first set while Gonzalez began the third with treatment on his right elbow.
Federer has now won more than ten titles in a season for the third year in a row.
