Murray to take it on the chin in Thailand
Sep 12, 2006, 9:39 GMT
Bangkok - Scrawny Scott Andy Murray will put his relative weakling physique on the line at the Thailand Open after signing on to participate in a gruelling Thai kickboxing exhibition.
The drawcard's participation in the possibly watered-down version of the combat sport will be presented as a highlight after the 2005 finalist's first match at the event, which begins September 25.
The national sport of the Land of Smiles appears anything but friendly, with both kicking and punching allowed.
Murray will surely be hoping that two of the major names in kickboxing go easy on him. The 19-year-old will face off against local hero Khaosai Galaxy, 'the Thai Tyson,' and Somluck Kamsing, feted hero of Thailand's first Olympic gold medal in boxing in 1996 in Atlanta.
Somluck has parleyed his fight career into a television soap opera gig, but still has the skills to give an amateur like Murray a bit of a drubbing if provoked.
