San Diego, CA - Lindsay Davenport, Venus and Serena Williams have withdrawn from the Acura Classic in San Diego, set to start next Monday at La Costa Resort and Spa.
Davenport has been out since March due to a back injury and has competed in three WTA Tour events this season, reaching the quarterfinals of the Australian Open, the semifinals of Dubai and the fourth round of Indian Wells.
Venus Williams, a three-time Acura Classic champion, pulled out of the tournament due to a left wrist injury.
'I have had great experiences playing in San Diego and regret that I will not have an opportunity to play there this year,' Venus said. 'I am training and rehabilitating and look forward to being back on the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour as soon as possible.'
Serena Williams withdrew under advisement from her doctor because of a knee problem.
