Rain can't keep Federer from Wimbledon revenge win
Jul 5, 2006, 16:40 GMT
London - Roger Federer shrugged off two rain interruptions Wednesday to avenge his last loss on grass with a 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 quarter-final defeat of Mario Ancic at the Wimbledon Championships.
Federer won his 46th straight grass-court match as he made amends for his last loss on the surface - against the Croatian in the Wimbledon first round in 2002.
Since then, the pair have met four times, with the Swiss now sweeping the quartet.
Top seed Federer, winner of the last three Wimbledons, was unflustered as the pair were sent off by light rain after just 13 minutes on court.
Nearly 90 minutes later, the contest resumed, with Federer earning a quick break on his way to lifting the opening set.
A second interruption came with Federer up a break 3-2 in the second. Ancic broke the world number 1 as Federer lost serve for only the second time in his title defence before claiming a semi-final place.
He will await a winner from Czech Radek Stepanek and Swedish veteran Jonas Bjorkman.
